Film Program
Entry Requirements
Entry:until 2025.6.30
At the Tokyo International Deaf Arts Festival, we are looking for film works which propose novel approaches and provoke new questions and ideas. We are looking forward to receiving your application and submission of a film made with your unique character and visual perspective.
Guidelines
  • Entry Period: Monday, December 16th, 2024 – Monday, June 30th, 2025 [Only applications sent using the official entry form will be accepted]
  • Eligibility: Open to both domestic and international applicants
  • Entry Fee: Free
  • Notice of Acceptance: Scheduled early July, 2025 (by email)
Entry Requirements
(1) The completion date of the work must be later than September 1, 2021.
(2) The film must be created from the perspective of the Deaf, or the theme of the film must be Deaf oriented.
(3) The film must be produced primarily by Deaf/Hard of Hearing people, or in collaboration with Deaf/Hard of Hearing people.
(4) All genres are accepted whether it is fiction or nonfiction (documentary). There are no requirements regarding the length of the film.
(5) World/international premiere films or Asia premiere films are preferred.
(6) As a general rule, the film must be submitted using digital material with English subtitles for the official screening. (At the time of application, it is acceptable for only Japanese subtitles to be submitted, but if the work is selected for screening, English subtitles must also be submitted later).
(7) Entry Conditions : The applicant is responsible for all necessary copyright clearances for material used in their ​submitted works. TIDAF will not be held responsible for damages resulting from copyright infringement lawsuits from other parties. Any such claims are the responsibility of the applicant.
How to Apply
(1) Review the application’s terms and conditions below and click the Apply button to access the web entry form.
(2) In addition to submitting the web entry form, the applicant must submit an online screener uploaded to YouTube or Vimeo.
Officially Selected Films: Material and Subtitles
After officially being selected to be screened in TIDAF, the following materials must be submitted:
(1) Digital data of the film (H.264) both with and without English subtitles
(2) Digital data of the trailer (H.264)
(3) Data file of original language subtitles (using text, cap, srt, Excel, etc.)
(4) Data file of English subtitles (using text, cap, srt, Excel, etc)
These digital materials must be submitted to the specified address of the festival office in an external hard drive by the ​end of July 2025. Alternatively, it can be sent via WeTransfer or Google Drive if the total size of the materials is ​appropriate. All the selected films will be officially screened with English and Japanese subtitles.

  • During the screenings, Tokyo International Deaf Arts Festival staff may be in the audience and request ​permission to take ​photos for documentation purposes.
