Teckenbro is a Swedish deaf-led media company that puts sign language in the spotlight. We produce high-quality sign language media, ranging from live broadcasts and TV productions to translations. Using our motion capture technology and real-time avatars, we transform sign language into digital magic. With its deaf team members, Teckenbro serves as a bridge between the media world and the sign language community where innovation meets culture.

Joel Kankkonen, Sweden
Business Owner and Media Producer
Joel Kankkonen is an experienced media producer and business owner with over 25 years of experience in the media industry. As the founder and owner of Teckenbro AB, based in Örebro, Sweden, Joel has established himself as a leading force in the industry. The company is known for its innovative productions and creative solutions, and since its founding in 2008, it has delivered several programs and services to national broadcast TV. Joel and his employees are educated sign language translators and the company translates a lot of information texts for government agencies.
Being deaf, Joel has developed a unique perspective and insight into sign language media production. His expertise spans multiple areas, including production, editing, camera work, screenwriting, directing, and consulting.
A couple of years ago, Joel became interested in sign language avatars, leading to the development of groundbreaking projects in this field. He is currently the director of an upcoming teather production where a sign language avatar interacts with an actor on stage. This production is considered the first of its kind in the world within sign language teather and marks an important step forward for sign language performing arts.

Andy Van Hoorebeke is an experienced IT strategist, entrepreneur, and advocate for digital accessibility, with more than 25 years of work in the tech world. He is the founder of GLWMax (since 2017) and co-founder of the international initiative DeafInfinity. Andy brings together technical know-how, creativity, and a clear passion for making technology work for everyone.
GLWMax started as a consultancy focused on IT security and digital infrastructure, and quickly grew into a company that also offers communication support and accessibility solutions. In recent years, Andy and his team have focused especially on AI-driven tools for sign languages, helping to make digital spaces more inclusive and accessible.
Andy is known for his down-to-earth, collaborative approach. He doesn’t shy away from complex challenges – but always looks for solutions with people in mind. He’s also a natural connector, with a strong international network and the ability to bring the right people together around meaningful projects.
With a solid background in Deaf AI and deep understanding of the Deaf community’s needs, Andy works to ensure that innovation respects culture, identity, and human dignity. His goal is simple but powerful: to help build a digital world where no one is left out – and everyone feels seen.
