Tokyo International Deaf Arts Festival 2025 - Reports and At a Glance
The Deaf Arts Society of Japan is pleased to release the summary report documenting the Tokyo International Deaf Arts Festival 2025 “City of Sign Language”.
The full report provides a detailed archive of the 2025 festival programs covering theatre, film, visual arts, workshops, and community exchanges. It includes records, reports, and a collection of essays reflecting on the arts festival. From multiple perspectives, the content analyzes the creative process, focusing on how Deaf and hearing individuals came together to bridge linguistic and cultural gaps, as well as the meaningful dialogues that unfolded throughout the event.
To make the festival's work accessible to a wider audience, we have also published a summarized edition. This version provides a clear overview of the project and is designed to be read alongside the main report for a complete picture of the festival. Both documents are available to download for free as PDFs via the links below.
As a Deaf-led arts festival, this project was designed as a space for creation that stays true to the lived experiences of the community. The production process involved the intersection of multiple languages, including Japanese Sign Language, Japanese, and International Sign. This naturally led to a deeper exploration of how we share our respective backgrounds and identities. This report stands as a record of those results.
We hope these records serve as a valuable resource for the continued growth of Deaf arts and the expansion of accessibility throughout the cultural arts.
We would like to extend our sincerest gratitude to all of our partners and supporters who helped make this project possible.
